Parent Teacher Conferences

October 12, 2018

Dear Elementary Families,

I hope the start of the school year has gone smoothly for you and your child.  I wanted to take a moment to thank you for your support and patience with the changes that were made at the elementary level.  Based on all reports and observations, the incorporation of the Bridges Math program and departmentalization at grades 3, 4 and 5 has been going very smoothly.  I also want to publicly thank the teachers for their hard work and dedication. Any changes, especially involving new curricular programs, take time until it is firmly grasped and this year is truly a learning year for both adults and students.

Hempfield Area School District believes communication between parents and teachers is essential for a successful educational experience.  To this end, I want to make you aware of the following upcoming events: Fall Family Math Nights and our annual Parent-Teacher Conferences.  In order to accommodate schedules, West Point Elementary will host grades 3, 4 and 5 for Family Math Nights on October 29, 2018. The evening will be designed so parents can get a “sneak” peak at the Bridges math program.  A subsequent Family Math Night for grades K-2 will be held this Spring.

The upcoming annual Elementary Parent/Teacher Conferences are designed to provide you an opportunity to discuss your child’s progress with his/her teacher.  We believe that the conference process enhances the home-school relationship and improves the learning environment for each student. Parent/teacher conferences will be occurring upon the release of the 1st nine weeks report cards in November.  You will be receiving a communication from your child’s homeroom teacher about how to schedule conferences. We realize your schedule is busy so the teaching staff will try to accomodate.

For those parents/guardians with a child in grades 3, 4 and 5, you will meet with the homeroom  teacher for conferences. The homeroom teachers will be prepared to discuss your child’s progress in all core instructional areas.  If additional information is needed following the conference, you may arrange a follow-up conference with the team teacher.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Dell
